A handbook of strategies for ensuring women have an impact in media and their views and values are integral to programming, is due be launched early 2019 in Norway.
It will be aimed at media students, journalists and media professionals. It focuses on best practice for gender inclusiveness and is being written by Ann Mabel Sanyuas, a journalist/researcher specialising in gender and development, and Greta Gober a media researcher and the chair of IAWRT's Gender Mainstreaming Committee.
This is the final phase of the GMP project, which in 2018-9 has focused on reporting of gender equity issues, and equal employment and safety for women in the media industry. Click for Detail of GMP project.
The handbook is based on the GMP pilot study report Gender Equality and Social Justice in Public Media available here and further work by Ann Sanyuas collecting experiences and examples of industry best practices, focusing particularly on South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, and India.
