The International Association for Women in Radio and Television is pleased to announce the long documentary Executive Director and producers for 2014. We received many proposals from our members, following the success of last year’s theme on Climate Change; and we look forward to seeing the latest productions on Women and Reproductive Health.
First Jai Chandiram Memorial Fellowship awarded to Iram Ghufran

The first Jai Chandiram Memorial Fellowship has been unanimously awarded to Iram Ghufran for a pre-production grant for research and script development for a documentary film MAD IS A DIFFERENT DIRECTION.
The APC End violence: Women’s rights and safety online project is changing women’s lives. It is our goal with this section to offer a personal look at individual women whose lives have been significantly impacted by the initiative.

The IAWRT parallel event at the CSW, about gender equality in the media, went very well. The Boss Room at the UN Church Center was filled to capacity with almost 100 people including a New York congresswoman, UNESCO & CEDAW representatives present.
Ruchira Gupta, an Emmy-winning Indian filmmaker, journalist, abolitionist, and human rights activist is recognized for her work in empowering women and girls.
The Nordic region is well known for having gender equality as a hallmark of society. In the media sector, however, the male dominance persists in many areas, both in the industry itself and in the output. However, in the Nordic region there are also important examples of structural and individual steps towards gender equality in the media.
On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, 8 March, UNESCO joins forces with the Global Alliance on Media and Gender to launch the Women Make the News 2015 under the theme, “*Yes we must! Reaching Gender Equality in the Media by 2030*”.
In Iran women are legally required to dress modestly and ensure their hair is covered. A series of acid attacks on women in the historic Iranian city of Isfahan has raised fears and prompted rumors that the victims were targeted for not being properly veiled.
An Egyptian court on Thursday acquitted a father and a doctor over performing a female circumcision operation that killed a teenage girl in the Nile Delta city of Mansoura last year.
