As a non-profit multimedia training institute, Aina's work is guided by a belief in the importance of free speech and cultural expression. A strong supporter of women's rights in Afghanistan, Aina has facilitated the creation of a number of media initiatives produced by and for Afghan women, from the independent radio Afghan Women’s Voices, to the popular women’s magazine Malalai, to Afghanistan's first-ever all-female video production unit. One Aina-trained filmmaker Mary Ayubi made a documentary, Shadows to communicate the wide gap between the day-to-day realities of women living inside the country's capital and those living in the far rural reaches beyond it.
