Gender equality involves men. Change does not come by itself, targeted political action is needed. Governments need to design clever politics to enable women to take part in the labour market as well as raising a family. This is the kind of policy that the country cannot afford not to have. Norway's minister for gender equality, children and integration, Audun Lysbakken, has had busy days at the UN Commission on the status of Women in New York. His speech was very well received today.
Before he went to New York, the young minister notified his Prime Minister that he would take his months of paternal leave in the autumn to stay home with his first child.
