The IAWRT-India, in partnership with the IIC, is organizing the 6th Asian Women’s Film Festival in New Delhi on March 6- 7-8, 2010. This event will showcase the works of Asian women film makers in a range of genres – fiction, non-fiction, animation and television features. This year we have opened the widow to non- Asian women filmmakers whose works focus on Asia .The seminar will have lively interactions with scholars, media makers and viewers forum on popular media and gender concerns .
The term ''Asian'' refers to origin – the film maker can be working in any part of the world.
Though not mandatory, the aim is to screen films made in the last two years so that the selection reflects contemporary concerns and fresh energies. There is a special section of student films.
The theme of the 6th Asian Women’s Film Festival, March 2010, is BREAKING BOUNDARIES : SHARED SPACES. The selection of films reflect how women (as film makers and/or as protagonists) negotiate, resist or document political, social, cultural, environmental, educational or economic issues.
As in the past we were overwhelmed by the response to our call for entries for the festival. Films from Australia, Algeria, Bangladesh, France, India, Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, Norway, Pakistan, South Korea and Sri Lanka will feature at this year's festival. Apart from these, there is a special focus on a filmmaker (Nilita Vachani from New York).
The film package is vibrant and representative of the country, content and form. We expect many filmmakers from India and abroad to attend the festival . All the films are “must see” and we do recommend that you make the time and effort to see and meet the directors of : The Stitches Speak , I Wonder, Supermen of Malegaon , Rock Heart Beijing , Virgin, Bahar , Last Rites, How green was my Valley, Afghan Girls can Kick and A Small Dream .
