2.0 ACTIVITIES
2.1   INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
The demo was held in Dar es Salaam from Karimjee Hall (former Parliament Hall) to Mnazi Mmoja Park where the Minister for Community Development, Children and Gender, Sophia Simba addressed the rally. In her address she decried gender violence which is increasing in the country despite enactment of Special Offence Sexual Provision Act 1998 of which Tanzania Media Women's Association (TAMWA) in collaboration with FemAct pressurized the government to enact the law.

Wearing tshirts with a slogan 'Stop Gender Violence, it is a criminal offence', women from all walks of life marched and gathered to listen to the Minister as well as hear testimonies of gender violence victims.
Tanzania is one of the signatories of CEDAW and other instruments that discriminates or violate women's rights.

2.2   TRAINING
•   Under the auspices of UN Women the trainings were successfully conducted in three locations drawing together 98 practitioners from community rural media in Tanzania covering topics such as: Good Governance and Anti corruption, Constitutional change, HIV and AIDSs, Gender Based Violence, Introduction behavior change communicate and models, development of the messages and programme matrix, scriptwriting for radio, interviewing techniques, insert editing and mixing skills and production.
•   Capacity building the community radio and television through trainings in terms of content and production of programmes in mainstreaming gender and relevant issues like HIV, AIDS, sexuality, rape, FGM

2.3   OPENING AN ACCOUNT
Form already filled waiting the process to mature. The process took too long due to dropping in and out of some key persons in the leadership.
2.4   REGISTRATION OF THE CHAPTER
That too has not materialized. The lawyer who is doing the registration for us travels a lot and has all the documentation. Now to commission another is risky, it has cost implications. We are still on the waiting list.
2.5   WORKING GROUP FOR CHANGE
•   Continued to consult and inputs with other members of the group regarding improving IAWRT governance.
2.6   NOMINATION COMMITTEE MEMBER
•   Continued to communicate and consult with Gunilla (team leader) on possible terms of reference for elections this year.
2.7   COMMUNICATION STRATEGY WITH MEMEBRS
•   Continued to foster communication strategy with members through emails and KEEP them informed on latest news.
•   Continued to collect fees from members
•   Galvanized members to support activities using existing ones since we are yet to secure funds for implementation of project.
•   Publicity using different forums and networking
•   Membership drive
•   Circulated media award competition to different stakeholders
•   Reviewed the constitution to comply with NGO Act 2002 ready for chapter registration

Updated record of IAWRT Tanzania membership is 14, all paid up. The updated version was sent to the secretariat in October 2010

2.9 FINANCIAL REPORT
IAWRT International rewarded the chapter with 750 USD for opening an account. Out of that amount USD 500 will be used to open an account the ongoing process now. Not a single cent has been touched for overheads or anything. The chapter is only waiting for an account to be operational in order to officially start transactions. So far we do errands using merger resources from our salaries.

2.10   CHALLENGES
•   Long process of chapter registration
•   No office space for IAWRT chapter to operate especially now that the chair has left MISA-TAN and UN security system is tight.
•   Fund raising is still a challenge as long as the chapter is not officially registered
•   As stated earlier on, the chapter currently implements its programmes through joint ventures with other organizations.

Iawrt Tanzania Chapter was not heard in the 1990s although there were members who were involved in the organisation. The person who inspired us all to join the organisation at that time was Betty Mkwasa, co broadcaster with the then Radio Tanzania Dar es Salaam. This was after her return from one of Iawrt meetings abroad. The first members to join Iawrt was Betty Mkwasa, Edda Sanga, Penzi Nyamungumi and Rose Haji Mwalimu. All aforementioned members are broadcasters with former Radio Tanzania Dar es Salaam now Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC).

Years went by and it was until 2009 when Iawrt was officially installed as a chapter during the Cambodia Bi-annual Conference.

It had seven members then, but has since grown to 14 as up to November 2010.

Rose H. Mwalimu was awarded with Nuffic Scholarship by the Government of Netherlands to attend a 6-week course on Training for Trainers. A training course for women and radio and televisions was designed as part of her course requirements and some funds will be realized.
