IAWRT Kenya was registered as an organization in January 2003 following an IAWRT Regional Workshop held in Kampala, Uganda, in 2002. Nine Kenyan women broadcasters who attended the Kampala Regional workshop upon return founded IAWRT Kenya. In November 2005 during the 31st IAWRT Biennial Conference held in Williamsburg, North Virginia, IAWRT Kenya received its charter officially becoming a national chapter. The Kenya chapter hosted the 2007 Biennial Conference.
