Conference participants and guests will be welcomed with cocktails at 6.30 pm on Monday 16 November 2009. This is a chance to informally meet new members and guests and to catch up with old friends.

 DAY 1 - Portrayal of Women in the Media

Conference opening and the portrayal of women in the media.

           Regional studies illustrated by member documentaries from the IAWRT Documentary Production

Advocacy in the media: The roles of journalists, advocates and journalist-advocates. Three perspectives followed by a discussion. Chair: TBC.

DAY 3 - Beijing+15: The way forward

Beijing+15: What was the Beijing Platform for Action? What has happened since 1995? Where to now for women and media? Chair: Bandana Rana, Vice-President, IAWRT.

9.10     Keynote address: Mdm Kek Galabru, CEDAW Chairperson in Cambodia and President
           Cambodian League for the Promotion and Defence of Human Rights (LICADHO)

9.40     Members to report from their own countries and regions on progress on Beijing+15 by
           governments and NGOs. Presenters TBC.

11.00   Keeping governments focused: Shadow Reporting on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for
           Action.

           What is shadow reporting and how is it best undertaken? Discussion led by representative from
           FOKUS. (TBC)

13.00 - 14.00 Getting Women on the Agenda - a panel discussion about women and media by media
                    women.  Panel: Cameroon, Pakistan, India, Norway; others TBC.
